About Us
Vocabulary Management Group
Vocabulary Management Group is a leading software and consultancy company for the creation, management and dissemination of digital vocabularies and similar structured information. The company was formed in March 2005 by two UK-based partner companies, Schemeta and Knowledge Integration, bringing together more than 50-person years of experience in knowledge organisation. Today, Vocabulary Management Group has an established and growing customer base in the Education, Cultural and Government sectors in the UK and Europe, and supports systems ranging from hundreds to millions of terms.
The Vocabulary Management Group (Vocman) team includes experts in the field of controlled vocabularies in their various forms - taxonomies, classification schemes, thesauri, ontologies, folksonomies. Vocman personnel have played a key role in the establishment and utilization of open standards applicable to vocabulary and metadata management, and have worked with a range of standards bodies and implementers’ groups to help embed standards, such as Z39.50 (ISO 23950), ISO ILL (ISO 10160/10161) and SRU/SRW, into mainstream applications. Existing Vocman projects are contributing to wider awareness of these standards in the UK and EU Education sectors, and to the adoption of systems enabling higher conformity to prescribed terminologies, simplified mapping between vocabularies, and increased data and knowledge sharing between systems and organisations.
